In the final week of the regular season, a lot is on the line in Region IV of Texas 6A football. While most teams know whether their season will continue or not, district championships and critical playoff seeding are at stake. Here’s a look at the top matchups this week.

Top games to watch

Marshall Rams (8-1) vs Brennan Bears (9-0)

Lake Travis Cavaliers (8-1) vs Westlake Chaparrals (9-0)

Smithson Rangers (8-1) vs Steele Knights (9-0)

Game of the Week

Round Rock Dragons (8-1) vs Vandergrift Vipers (9-0)

This is a week 10 matchup with tons of the area’s top talent. Both teams are littered with talent on both sides of the ball and are looking to make a deep playoff run in the coming months. One loss Round Rock has a balanced attack headed by senior running back Trayvian Mccoy-Gay and sophomore quarterback Michael Davis.

Mccoy-Gay has been dominant this season averaging 138 yards per game and leads District 25-6A with 17 touchdowns. However, he is not alone with notable names such as junior Jalen Gilbert and sophomore Leonard Moore, who are the district leaders in interceptions. With the ability to pound the ball and to take it away Round Rock is one of the most well-rounded teams in their district.

Undefeated Vandergrift has just as many top performers on both sides of the ball. The offense is led by junior quarterback Brayden Buchanan and senior receiver Reece Beauchamp who have helped Vandergift lead their district in both total yards and scoring. The Vipers are stout on the defensive side of the ball with notable senior linebackers Slater Swartwood and Sterling Emerson.

Both teams are filled with great players on both sides of the ball and it should be a must-watch game as Round Rock takes on Vandergrift with the District 25-6A championship on the line in Austin Friday night.
