Oklahoma State University has continued its successful recruiting streak in the state of Texas with the recent commitment of Jonathan Agumadu, a talented linebacker from McKinney. Agumadu, who transferred from Richardson Pearce High School, has quickly risen to prominence in the football scene after transitioning from wide receiver to edge rusher. Now, at McKinney, he will showcase his skills as an off-ball linebacker.

A Rising Star in Texas

Standing at an impressive 6-foot-1 and weighing 220 pounds, Agumadu is ranked as the 134th best linebacker in the nation and the 214th overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports. Despite receiving offers from schools such as SMU, Memphis, Missouri, North Texas, and Arkansas State, Agumadu chose to commit to Oklahoma State after his official visit to Stillwater on June 14. It was during this visit that he experienced the genuine love and support from the coaching staff, which ultimately sealed the deal for him.

Agumadu spoke highly of his experience, stating, “When I went on the visit, I just wanted to meet with the coaches and see how everything was. I met with coach Nardo and coach Clements, and I saw how real the coaching staff was. They didn’t feed me with fake lies. They gave me real promises, and I just liked how real the coaching staff was with me. Talking to the players, they just told me how real the coaching staff was and how family-oriented the program is. That really sealed the deal for me as soon as I stepped on campus” told 247Sports.

A Versatile Athlete

Agumadu’s journey to becoming a standout linebacker began with his high school career on offense before transitioning to defense last year. Oklahoma State recognizes his versatility and envisions him playing multiple linebacker positions within their 3-3 defensive scheme. Agumadu expressed his excitement about this opportunity, stating, “Coach Nardo switches to a 3-3, so I’m going to play the MIKE or WILL. I like that fit. I definitely want to be able to lead the defense” told 247Sports.

Growth and Development

The transition from offense to defense can be challenging for any young player, and Agumadu acknowledges that his biggest area of growth has been learning how to play on the defensive side of the ball. Last year was his first year playing defense, and he believes that he is still growing in many areas, particularly in terms of learning the playbook and adjusting from playing on the edge to becoming a linebacker.

Reflecting on his commitment to Oklahoma State, Agumadu shared, “I feel like Oklahoma State is the right place for me, just from everything I’ve seen. My family loves it, I love it, and I just feel like that program is going to be the best program to develop me as a football player and a student as well” told 247Sports.

Looking Ahead

Now that Agumadu has made his commitment, his focus will shift towards his senior season. With no plans to take any additional visits, he is fully dedicated to becoming a Cowboy. Agumadu’s commitment to Oklahoma State not only strengthens the Cowboys’ recruiting efforts in Texas but also adds a talented and versatile player to their linebacker corps.

Oklahoma State University continues to establish itself as a force to be reckoned with in college football recruiting, successfully attracting top talent like Jonathan Agumadu. As Agumadu embarks on the next chapter of his football journey, he is eager to contribute to the team’s success and further develop his skills as a linebacker. The future looks bright for both Agumadu and the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
