HOUSTON – Week 3 of Texas High school football was full of action packed offensive play. We have identified the top running backs from the Houston area who are showing up and showing out each week. Let’s dive right into some of the best running back recruits to keep your eye on this season.

Jonathan McCoy (22) Bellaire

Not many are familiar with McCoy yet but he is an explosive runner out of the backfield and can bust out some long runs for six points. He shows some special break-away speed and some strength breaking out of whipy arm tackles. Last game McCoy had an impressive 31 carries for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns. This is one who could raise his stock and make his name know this season.

Kedrick Reescano (23) New Caney

Reescano has been one of the top running backs in any class in the state of Texas this season. Just into the third week of the regular season , Reescano is already nearing 500 yards rushing and about to surpass 10 touchdowns on the season next week. He checks off all the boxes as a running back and can plow people over and catch out of the backfield.

Jerrell Wimbley (22) CE King

Jerrell has been having him self a season and is one of the top rushers out of the Houston area. Holds 5 offers at the moment but I suspect that number to increase by the end of this season. Last week in the win against Ridge Point, Jerrell accounted for 157 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.

Ruben Owens (23) El Campo

This list wouldn’t be a complete one without naming one of the top running backs in the entire nation in Owens. Since opening up his recruitment and shining this season he started to rain in more offers and interest from some of the nations most prestigious programs. This season Owens has 577 yards rushing on 54 carries and count em’ 10 touchdowns.

Keshun Thomas (24) A&M Consolidated

In the win against Judson (28-14) Thomas had an impressive breakout game with 162 yards rushing and 1 touchdown. He’s a tough physical runner who can shows flashes of speed and acceleration at any moments notice. Only a freshmen last season, Thomas isn’t taking long to make his name noticed this season.

Honorable Mentions

Quinton Jones (24) Jersey Village

Jacob Brown (22) Paetow

18 carries for 294 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns
