Top Recruits Camps & Offers

By:

2023 Smithson Valley's OL Colton Thomasson poses for a TCU campus visit picture.

Today we take a look at some of the top athletes who have been having great camps and receiving offers this summer.

Most of these athletes have been on coaches’ radars for a while now and are making some great impression in person at camps.

The first athlete up is a 6’3″ Quarterback from Dripping Springs High School, Austin Novosad. No other QB has been on fire more or has had a better summer more than Austin.

Austin is a tall lengthy QB, who has great mechanics, footwork, and a strong arm. Seeing Austin in action early in the year at some of these 7-on-7 events, I became very impressed with him and his abilities and knew it was only a matter of time before coaches recognized his talents and started to offer him.

In 2020 Austin had some very impressive, eye-popping numbers. He completed 167 of his 270 passes, throwing for 2,887 yards through the air and racking up 36 touchdowns and only 6 INTS on the year. He is a great decision-maker and general out there on the field and can absolutely torch defenses through the air.

Starting at the beginning of June Austin has received all of his 7 Division I offers and the month isn’t even over for him yet. All offers seemingly coming back to back after each campus visit. Offers include Baylor, UTSA, Rice, Texas State, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, and the latest offer coming from SMU. Keep your eye out for this QB this year. Should be very fun to watch.

Rueben Owens, one of the top running backs in the state and nation has been receiving a lot of offers ever since he de-committed from the longhorns last week and opened his recruitment back up. The de-commitment comes after a visit with coach Saban and the Crimson Tide.

The 2023 El Campo running back star was just in southern California visiting the trojans and looked like he had a great visit. He does hold an offer from USC as well as 29 other Division I schools. The latest offers to come in for Owens is a very impressive list. The U ( Maimi), Missouri, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Michigan are the latest offers just this month.

2023 Coppell High School’s 4-star DB/ATH Braxton Myers has had 4 division I offers come in this month to add to his impressive resume of 21 total offers. Minnesota, Utah State, Washington, Georgia Tech, and Ole Miss are the latest to offer this month. In 2020 Braxton was second-team all-state at Plano John Paul II as a sophomore and played on varsity as a freshman as well.

One lethal defensive end off the edge to watch out for this coming up season is 2024 Allen DE Zina Umeozulu. Nito is one of the best edge defenders in his class in the state and most likely will be in the nation very soon. A player who could end up with 20-30 offers plus and will be a 4-star or 5-star athlete in the future.

He has the requisite size at 6’4″ 205, he has a very lean build and is already the requisite size colleges look for, and was only a freshman last season. He has an explosive first step and burst of the ball and can often beat blockers with his speed but can also use his long arms, strength, and arsenal of moves to get to the ball carrier. USC and the Oklahoma State Cowboys are the latest to offer him.

We will end here one of the top offensive linemen in the state who has just had a tremendous summer with offers coming in at just about every stop he has made. 2023 6’8 Smithson Valley’s Colton Thomasson has been impressing coaches everywhere he has gone with his elite size and talent. He shows some very good technique relative to his position, has long arms, big frame, and also shows some excellent footwork paired with a devasting punch.
