The Tompkins Falcons came out strong out of the gates offensively in the first half the game and were able to keep the momentum in their favor all game long.Magnolia played great defensively in the second half of the game and gave the Falcons a tough matchup all game long.
The offense of Tompkins has plenty of weapons to choose from for quarterback Cole Francis. Most notably on offense in this game Francis and wide receiver Joshua McMillan were putting on a offensive clinic in the first half. Francis and McMillian were playing pass and catch between the two and putting up points on the score board.
I think McMillian will have himself a breakout season this year and be a high producer for Tompkins on offense. McMillian Already committed to HBU, McMillan looked like a big time play maker on the field. He showed some impressive speed and soft hands catching the football.
In the second half, Magnolia looked like they were pressed to make a comeback. After a few half time adjusments Tompkins looked like an entirely different team and held Tompkins close within score. Magnolia made a few big plays offensively, however, that Tompkins defense stepped up big time when they were called upon.
In the second half the Tompkins defense went on back-to-back with interceptions on both offensive drives for Magnolia .Ending the game with 3 total interceptions, Tompkins was able to hold off a determined Magnolia team. The timing for the defense to show up and show out couldn’t have come at a better time.
A few others who stood out offensively through out the game with some impressive performances was senior receiver TJ Curtis, RB, Collin Marshall, and WR Ashton Vasquez’s. Curtis impressed me the most because he is severely under the radar at the moment and he is a terrific receiver. A multi-sport athlete, Curtis plays well on both the basketball court and the football field just as well. He showed some quick feet at the line of scrimmage and was able to create plenty of space for himself in his routes.
Tompkins heads to Clear springs next week and will look to continue to add to their 1-0 record. As for Magnolia they will be facing Brenham next week and will look to rebound and get their season turned in the right direction. With a sought defense, Magnolia should have no problem in turning things around for their season.
