The District 5A- Region 2 area looks very different this year thanks to the UIL re-alignments. The competition will still be fierce in the district, however, a lot of new and unfamiliar faces have been added to the list. Here is how the new district line up in 2022.

Mansfield Timberview went 8-5 and 5-2 in district play last season giving them second place in their previous division. They faced some tough competition last year overcoming teams like Flower Mound, Burleson, and Ennis. Recruits to watch that could possibly get all district honors could be the following players for the Wolves.

Lone Star Frisco
With the loss of a star quarterback, Lone Star Frisco has some big shoes to fill. However, we still have them taking district this season with some of their top talent returning and piecing together a team this year full of standout recruits all over the field on both sides of the football. It will be interesting to see who steps up and is the new signal caller from Lone Star. It’s looking like senior quarterback Gaberial Barrientes could be up next. One notable underclassman at quarterback for Lone Star Frisco could be junior 6-foot-2 quarterback Collin Blackstock who could also be in the quarterback battle for the offense as well.

District 7 Pre-Season Champions
Longview Lobos
The Lobos had one of the best records on the season last year with a 9-4 record and a 4-2 record in district play. Could we count on doing the same this year? Possibly; many could contribute their success to the high-powered offense they have with one of the state and nation’s top wide receivers in the country in senior 4-star Jalen Hale. They have some talent returning on offense and the biggest questions we had were on defense and seeing how well they do this season. One player that standouts out on defense for the Lobos and that is one to watch this season is junior defensive back Daedrion Garrett who plays safety and will look to anchor down that defensive secondary.

District 8 Pre-Season Champions
Crosby
Crosby has a team loaded with talent on both sides of the football. Last season they were able to string together an impressive season with some of their star players and earn a 12-4 record on the season and going a perfect 7-0 in district play. They will be a tough team to beat this season in 2022 and some of the players we are fixing to mention could be a large part of that success of being named District champs. Led by senior quarterback Cyrin Myles, Crosby will have no problem moving the football and scoring touchdowns on an opponent during the season. The strong offensive weapons that Myles has at his disposal will be what many defensive coordinators have been preparing for since the end of last season.
