HOUSTON – Bridgeland coming into the game undefeated and will remain that way advancing their regular season record to 5-0 on the season with the 41-14 victory over CY Woods. Kicking off the game Cy Woods scored first but Bridgeland answered back very quickly and never took their foot off the gas after that. Today we have the standout recruits from the game for each team as well as the MVP of the night.
Quarterback Connor Weigman came out strong in the first half and was able to help lead his team to a pretty sizable lead. The Texas A&M commit was throwing and running the football for points on the scoreboard giving the bears the momentum they needed for the rest of the game.
Weigman had some help in the game from fellow wide receiver and our MVP of the Game Jonathan Nelson. This standout player made his presence felt all night and was able to find his way into the endzone on many different occasions. The pair (Weigman and Nelson) looked unstoppable on the night and were a big reason the Bears had a sizeable lead all game long.
Cy Woods just couldn’t find a rhythm offensively and a large part of that was because of the terrific play of some of the Bridgeland bears defenders. Guys like defensive back Graham Gillispie made it hard for that Cy Woods offense to find any momentum. Gillispie is a prospect that is having a breakout senior campaign making plays all over the field on defense.
Cy Woods will look to bounce back next week as they face Langham Creek on the road and as for Bridgeland. The bears will look to remain undefeated on the season as they advance to a perfect start in district play being 2-0 thus far. Next week they will go head to head with Cypress Ranch at home.
MVP of the Game
Jonathan Nelson (23) |# 6, WR | Bridgeland
Nelson was making big-time plays all night long. This is an explosive receiver in his routes that can stop on a dime and then turn and run the ball upfield untouched. On the night Nelson had 4 receptions for 117 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns and he also rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown bringing his total to 3 touchdowns on the night.
