HOUSTON- The Woodlands are off to a great start in district play as they were able to defeat Willis in what many could safely presume would be a shootout game.
Coming into this match up were two of the best young quarterback recruits in the 2024 cycle in Willis’s DJ Lagway and the Woodland’s Mabrey Mettauer. Both are national recognized recruits with division I offers and that many prominent colleges are interested in.
The first half was a little slow to start for both offenses to find a rhythm but the Woodlands offense , lead by Mabrey was able to get things going and maintain a lead that would last the entire game after the second half.
Mabrey had himself a game in this one , thanks to some solid offensive line play and a balanced running attack. He was able to show case his dual-threat nature and run some scores in as well as throw for some. Earning himself as our MVP of the game.
DJ Lagway had an off night and the bright lights of the stage in this one might have distracted the young star. Nonetheless, he’s still young and given some time, will mature into that national spotlight role as being one of the top quarterback recruits in the country along with Mettauer.
Willis offense couldn’t get things going thanks to some stought defensive play by that Highlander defense. Our defensive player of the game is Aggie commit
The Woodlands have a strong team and have one weapons on offense and defense. It’s no wonder why they have lost some close ones this season given their emense talent on both sides of the ball.
Willis is 3-3 on the year and will look to rebound as they face College Park next week. The highlanders will try to keep the ball rolling in district play as they face Oak Ridge next week and advance to 4-2 on the season.
