Today we take a look at a look at some of North Texas’s best recruits to know for this fall. Keep your eyes on these class of 2023 players to know who could be making impacts for their respective teams this fall. Lets dive right into it.
Vontrelle Sanders (23) | 6’2, 165 lbs. | WR |Sherman
This past season was Vontrelle’s first time playing the football at any level, and he’s seen it pay off right away. His hoop skills translated very well for him when it came to getting separation from his defender and finding the gaps when the play breaks down. At 6’2, 176 lbs., he has a frame great frame to build on. Currently holding offers from Pitt, Houston Baptist University, and Southeastern Missouri State University, Sanders is a player that we’ll be hearing about sooner than later as he continues to sharpen his skills at the receiver position.

Aries Jones (23) | 6’0, 176 lbs. | DB |Sherman
Aries has made the switch from receiver to corner this offseason and if you ask his coach (Cory Cain), he’d tell you it was the right move. Recently picking up a DII offer from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, it won’t take long for college coaches to see the raw talent Jones has to offer. He is an FBS corner that will solidify that once the season starts.
Phoenix Grant (23) | 6’2, 185 lbs. | QB/S | Gunter
Starting at quarterback for Sherman last season, before transferring to Gunter, Grant orchestrated a run-heavy spread that utilized his athletic abilities. His future though is on the defensive side of the ball where he has been the starting safety for Sherman since his sophomore year. Grant is quick to get to the ball carrier and when he gets there he knows how to finish the play. On May 3rd, the UIL denied Grant’s appeal for his varsity eligibility due to his transfer. Phoenix is still working hard and most recently received an offer from Harding University. Grant is an FBS safety that all college colleges need to keep tabs on.
Ethan Sloan (23) | 5’9, 160 lbs. | WR/CB | Gunter
Ethan is the high school version of Deebo Samuels (San Francisco 49ers WR). Lining up anywhere from the slot to the backfield, Sloan use his speed and elusiveness to pick up yards in a hurry. Don’t let the slender frame fool you as he seldomly goes down on first contact. Sloan’s future is in the slot where he’s most dangerous with the ball in his hands. This month, Campbell University became Sloan’s first DI offer. He’s recently been in contact with Weber State, Yale, Montana, and Montana State. With another season to rack up his stats (4000+ total YD and 48 TD at Gunter), they’ll be many more at his door.
I’m extremely excited to announce my first offer to play at the next level from Campbell University! #GoCamels @skwilliamsjr @GoCamelsFB @CoachFieszel @gunter_football @CoachChav @drobalwayzopen pic.twitter.com/A448zVI09N

Matt Wagner (23) | 6’5, 230 lbs. | TE/DE | Prosper Rock Hill
Matt is the modern-day tight end that can work the seam effortlessly to get open and punish the defender blocking until the whistle is blown. Wagner has seen is recruitment start to take off with offers from Stetson University and Georgetown University while being in contact with Boise State, Wyoming, North Texas, and Villanova as of late. With plenty of room to build on an already stout frame, college coaches need to get with Wagner soon before it’s too late.
